Domestic launch | U&M? microwave ablation system researcher conference was grandly held

On December 15th, at the 2023 Academic Annual Conference of the Vascular Surgery Specialist Branch hosted by the Beijing Physicians Association, the national multi center researcher conference for the U&M? microwave ablation system independently developed by Beijing Sanhe Dingye Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Mednovo, was grandly held.


The conference invited Professor Li Yongjun from Beijing Hospital, Professor Wu Weiwei and Professor Cao Zhanjiang from Beijing Tsinghua Changgeng Hospital, Professor Zheng Yuehong from Peking Union Medical College Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Zhao Liang and Zhao Hui from Beijing Luhe Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University, Professor Zhang Lei from the First Hospital of Hebei Medical University, and Professor Lu Shaoying from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, to share the clinical experience of microwave ablation systems in various centers from the perspective of design concepts, clinical research data and clinical actual effects.


U&M ? microwave ablation system is used for intracavitary thermal ablation treatment of great saphenous vein varicose veins. The clinical trial of this project was officially launched in September 2020 at Beijing Hospital, by the end of September 2021, the enrollment of six centers nationwide was completed, with a total enrollment of 180 patients.

Professor Li Yongjun released the research data of multicenter registration clinical trials of U&M ? microwave ablation system - MOST Study (MicrOvave and laSer ablaTin Study). Research has shown that both EVLA (intracavity laser ablation) and EMA (intracavity microwave ablation) achieve their therapeutic goals through thermal ablation. After clinical comparison, it was found that the long-term reperfusion rate of EMA was 9.59%, while the long-term reperfusion rate of EVLA was 14.47%, far lower than that of EVLA method. The severity score of varicose veins in the subjects decreased steadily; and in terms of closure effect at 6 months or long-term (18-24 months) after surgery, EMA was superior to EVLA.



Professor Li Yongjun pointed out that U&M ? microwave ablation system is launched at the right time, and he hopes that more and more domestic products can benefit Chinese patients and soon beyond.

Professor Wu Weiwei shared Design concept and validation of U&M ?microwave ablation system. He pointed out that microwave thermal ablation is an active ablation, and in vivo, microwave conduction does not rely on tissue conductivity and is less affected by tissue carbonization and dehydration. This product combines the ideas of doctors, the design ability of engineers, and the transformation ability of enterprises from concept to application. It is a combination of medical and industrial world, also the first verified, registered, and original microwave application in China which made mednovo the first microwave ablation production enterprise in China to obtain a Class III registration certificate for the indication of great saphenous vein varicose veins. Of course, this is the first generation with a lot of room for improvement. We look forward to next generations, benefiting more patients.

Professor Zheng Yuehong stated that the clinical effect of U&M ? microwave ablation system is excellent, and we look forward to seeing U&M ? Microwave ablation system¡¯s to be used widely, and benefiting patients with the accumulated clinical practices.

Professor Cao Zhanjiang demonstrated the practical application effect of U&M? microwave ablation system through vivid cases. He stated that thermal ablation is the first choice for interventional treatment of varicose veins, and one year of clinical use shows that the system and catheter have stable performance and satisfactory clinical results. It is hoped that more attention will be paid to operational standards and details in the future practices, and clinical data continuously gathered for development of future generations.

Professor Zhao Hui stated that the clinical trial of U&M ? enrolled 16 subjects in our hospital, of which 8 were in the experimental group. The process was very smooth, the system was easy to operate, the ultrasound guidance was very clear, the thermal ablation effect was very ideal with high safety, and its long-term effect is worth looking forward to.

Professor Zhang Lei shared Application experience of U&M ?. He pointed out that the clinical trial stage of the product coincided with the most severe period of covid-19 pandemic, although very difficult, the results were commendable. its performance in clinical practice is excellent: the operation process is smooth, the head emits visible laser, and the position of the catheter entering and exiting the blood vessels can be identified with the naked eye; Integrated circulating cooling device, lower tube temperature, better patient experience, and no significant discomfort after surgery.

We look forward to it entering market for application soon and serving the vast number of patients.

U&M ? completed clinical trials and successfully launched during severe epidemic outburst, which cannot be achieved without the wisdom of Chinese doctors and the R&D and production capabilities of Chinese enterprises.


Professor Lu Shaoying pointed out that U&M ? Compared with early products, have higher closure efficiency, better therapeutic effects, and better user experience. What's even more valuable is that Mednovo extended the observation period to one year, which is a true testimony for its high responsibility for patients. We look forward to summarizing more experience in clinical practice in the future and truly achieving " domestic products boom"!

U&M ? microwave ablation system


The system is composed of a UM200 microwave ablation device and a new water-cooled circulating disposable microwave ablation catheter, used for thermal ablation treatment of great saphenous vein varicose veins.

The system releases penetrating microwave energy inside the diseased venous vessels, causing polar molecules in the vascular tissue to generate high-temperature heat under the action of microwave magnetic fields, leading to cell coagulation necrosis and achieving the goal of vascular closure.
